Archaeological Research on the Homeland of the Thermodon Amazons in Northern Turkey
Our research focuses on the landscape along the Thermodon River and the Amazon Island of Giresun Adasi.

Research into the presumed homeland of the Libyan Amazons
The homeland of the Libyan Amazons is said to be located on Lake Triton. Lake Triton is identified with the salt lake Chott el-Djerid in southern Tunisia. This little-studied region in southern Tunisia is the focus of our field research.
In the Footsteps of the Amazons of the Greek Islands of Lemnos and Samothrace
According to Greek tradition, Amazons are said to have lived on the island of Lemnos, located in the northeastern Aegean Sea; the island was referred to as »gynaikokratumene«, meaning »ruled by women«.
North of Lemnos lies the island of Samothrace. Here, the Amazon queen Myrine had established a sanctuary in honor of the »Great Mother«.
Archaeological Research on the Homeland of the Caucasian Amazons
The Caucasus is also said to have once been the homeland of the Amazons. We follow in their footsteps through this unexplored region.
Areas of research include: the Rioni River delta (known in antiquity as the Phasis), where the mysterious land of Colchis is said to have been located, as well as the area along the Black Sea coast from Novorossiysk in the north to Sukhumi in the south, where the enigmatic Northwest Caucasian megalithic culture left behind impressive monuments.

Field Research in Lycia
The region of Lycia is located in southwestern Turkey. Ancient sources recount extraordinary facts about the inhabitants of Lycia; for example, children in Lycia were not named after their father, as was customary in Greece, but after their mother. Homer's Iliad mentions that the Greek hero Bellerophon fought against the Amazons in Lycia. Lycia is famous for its multitude of magnificent funerary monuments.
