Amazon Research Center

Amazon Research Center is a non-commercial research platform dedicated entirely to the study of the historical Amazons.

This platform was founded in 1996 with following goals:

To make information about the historical Amazons accessible to a broad audience
To present the latest research findings
To intensify research projects and carry out new research activities

The founder of the Amazon Research Center, Gerhard Pöllauer (pictured right), born in 1962, is an Austrian archaeologist and historian who has been intensively researching the history of the Amazons for more than 35 years.
In the photo on the right, taken during our research trip in September 1999, he is standing in the archway of the mysterious Kapru Kale fortress, believed to be the Amazons' last refuge.

1987 - First research expedition to northern Turkey to study the Amazons of Thermodon
1988 - Thesis at the University of Graz, Austria: Amazonen. Eine kunst- und kulturhistorische Betrachtung (Amazons in Art and History)
1996 - Launch of the Internet platform: Amazon Research Center
1999 - Second research expedition to northern Turkey to study the Amazons of Thermodon
2000 - Publication of the paper: Auf den Spuren der Amazonen (In the Footsteps of the Amazons)
2002 - First research expedition to the North Aegean island of Lemnos to study the Amazons of Lemnos
2003 - Publication of the book: Die verlorene Geschichte der Amazonen (The Lost History of the Amazons)
2003 - Second research expedition to the North Aegean island of Lemnos to study the Amazons of Lemnos
2004 - Research trip to the North Aegean island of Samothrace, where the worship of the »Great Mother« was introduced by the Amazons
2005 - Exploring trip to Southern Tunisia - In Search of the Homeland of the Libyan Amazons
2006 - Third research expedition to the North Aegean island of Lemnos to study the Amazons of Lemnos
2007 - Publication of the book: Geheimnisvolles Lemnos. Die von Frauen beherrschte Insel (Mysterious Lemnos. The Island Ruled by Women)
2010 - Publication of the English version of »Die verlorene Geschichte der Amazonen«: The Lost History of the Amazons
